Amaravati Buddhist Monastery

Amaravati is a Theravada monastery in the Thai forest tradition of Ajahn Chah, on the edge of the Chiltern Hills, formally opened in 1985 under Ajahn Sumedho; Ajahn Amaro has been abbot since 2010. Twenty to thirty monks and nuns live there, and its on-site Retreat Centre runs residential retreats for lay people for nine months of the year.

How to apply

Write to the monastery's guest monk well in advance (Wat Pah Nanachat asks for at least two weeks) and expect to follow its full routine on eight precepts. Wat Pah Nanachat also expects earlier retreat experience.
