Dhamma Shringa

Founded in April 1981, Dhamma Shringa ('Summit of Dhamma') was Nepal's first Vipassana centre; it sits at about 5,200 ft on nearly four acres at the edge of Shivapuri National Park, about 12 km north of Kathmandu, and can accommodate about 250 people, with an 84-cell pagoda and a separate long-course complex. Ten-day courses normally run twice a month (1st-12th and 14th-25th), and registration is handled by the Nepal Vipassana Center city office at Jyoti Bhawan, Kantipath, from where a chartered bus takes students to the centre. The Vipassana Community Foundation reports that it has recently hosted about 39 courses and over 4,500 meditators a year.

How to apply

Apply online through the centre's page on dhamma.org (in Nepal, start from np.dhamma.org). New students must first complete a 10-day course, and there is no charge.
