Dhamma Giri ('Hill of Dhamma'), home of the Vipassana International Academy, is one of the world's largest Vipassana centres and shares its site at Igatpuri, about three hours' drive from Mumbai, with the Vipassana Research Institute. It held its first course and officially opened in 1976, and its pagoda, opened in 1979, has over 400 individual cells. dhamma.org says tens of thousands of students study there every year.
Apply online through the centre's page on dhamma.org (in Nepal, start from np.dhamma.org). New students must first complete a 10-day course, and there is no charge.
